Flavor tags are here: find your green coffee at a glance.
Blueberry, jasmine, cedar, sugarcane... Tasting notes are the poetry of coffee, but when it's time to choose from thirty green coffees, it can be overwhelming. Good news: each coffee in the catalog now has its flavor tag, a visual cue inspired by SAQ's taste tags. At a glance, you'll know which family you're stepping into.
The six families
- Chocolatey & Nutty: Cocoa, hazelnut, almond, mocha. Reliable choices, unbeatable as espresso.
- Sweet & Indulgent: Caramel, honey, maple, vanilla. The well-roundedness that everyone agrees on.
- Fruity & Subtle: Apple, citrus, delicate fruit. The ideal gateway to fruity coffees.
- Fruity & Bright: Blueberry, raspberry, tropical fruits: fruit that takes center stage. Adventurous souls, this way.
- Floral & Delicate: Jasmine, bergamot, tea notes. Light, fragrant, elegant.
- Woody & Spicy: Cedar, tobacco, sweet spices. Character and depth.
How we classify
There's no guesswork involved: the tag directly results from each coffee's tasting notes, with the most dominant family in the cup taking precedence. To differentiate fruity coffees, the process is key: a washed, natural or honey-processed coffee yields a restrained fruitiness (Fruity & Subtle), while a maceration or anaerobic fermentation process makes the fruit burst forth (Fruity & Bright). The same logic as in your cup.
How to use it
On the catalog, the tag is displayed on each coffee, and the "Flavors" filter shows you a complete family. Did you love a very pronounced anaerobic coffee? Filter Fruity & Bright to discover its cousins. Do you roast for classic tastes? Chocolatey & Nutty never disappoints. Want to step out of your comfort zone? Try the family next to your usual one; it's the shortest path to a great discovery.
